I recently switched my 2 cats over to Swheat scoop because of it's claims for being healthier for the cats and the environment. One of my cats now has allergy problems, and I wanted to do my best to find something to bring him relief from dusty clay litter.
I tried the world's best first, but neither kitty liked the smell of the corn (which was very sour smelling to me too), and didn't enter the box...so I tried the Swheat.
They did like the smell, when it was first poured in, and used the box immediately. And my allergic cat seemed to have less problems than usual with his wheezing, But, that's where the positive qualities of this litter ended.
The biggest problems are:
It does NOT clump....not at all, and so when the kitties rake the litter, the urine spreads throughout causing a bad ammonia smell. This is with 4" of litter and me scooping 1-2 times a day. I had to change out the whole pan after 3 days.
It is dusty....and very light. So it tracks all over my house and furniture. I've never experienced this level of tracking. I have short haired kitties and it must be hanging onto their coats and paws. I found it in every room on my bed, every rug, it's really bad.
I gave it 3 stars because I like the idea of environmental awareness with all things including litter, but I'd skip Swheat Scoop until they improve these problems.
I'm not sure what to try next. This is very frustrating. Anyone have any good recommendations for a litter that's dust free, handles odors, and doesn't track? Please let me know.
Update:
I decided to try the multi cat version, and this one does clump. But the tracking problem is still the same. Now that I've had it long enough to change the box, there is a big problem with the litter sticking to the bottom like it's cemented on (not exaggerating here) even with the layer of baking soda and a good 2-3 inches of the product in the box.
